Introduction to tracking applicant sources
When running recruitment campaigns across different platforms (like LinkedIn, newsletters, or your main website), knowing which channel successfully drives application completions is key. Integrating Google Tag Manager (GTM) and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) with AcceleratorApp captures the referral pathways of your applicants.
This integration solves the problem of disconnected marketing metrics, allowing you to tie finalized application submissions directly back to specific ad campaigns or partner networks. This feature is available to all Accelerator/Incubator administrators.
Where to Find Applicant Source Data
Once configured, source data is captured on your public AcceleratorApp applicant landing page. The technical setup involves linking your GTM container with AcceleratorApp support, while the performance metrics themselves will populate within your external Google Analytics 4 Acquisition reports.
Step-by-Step
1. Set up Google Tag Manager (GTM)
Create or log into your Google Tag Manager account, configure your web container, and copy the unique container ID displayed at the top right of your workspace dashboard (formatted as GTM-XXXXXXX). For detailed instructions, refer to the Google Tag Manager Quick Start Guide.
2. Let AcceleratorApp know your GTM ID
Open your AcceleratorApp dashboard, open the customer support chat widget, and send your copied GTM ID directly to our team so we can inject the tracking script onto your public application pages.
3. Connect Google Analytics 4 (GA4) via GTM
Open your GTM container, create a new tag, and choose Google Analytics: GA4 Configuration as the tag type. Enter your GA4 Measurement ID (G-XXXXXXXXXX), set your tracking trigger to All Pages, and click Submit followed by Publish to make your source tracking live.
Best Practices
Use consistent UTM links: When sharing your application page link across LinkedIn, Facebook, or emails, always append standard UTM parameters (e.g., ?utm_source=linkedin&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=cohort2026) so GA4 can accurately sort your applicant sources.
Test with Real Links: Before scaling up a marketing push, click on one of your custom marketing links and verify via GA4's "Realtime" report that your visit source is being registered correctly.
Coordinate with Support: If you change your marketing domains or application URLs, update our support team immediately to confirm your GTM script remains correctly embedded.
