Introduction to the Startup Terminology
The Custom Startup Terminology feature gives admins the flexibility to fully customize the core wording used across AcceleratorApp. By default, the platform uses the word "Startup" in all menus, headers, tabs, and dashboard setups for every user type, including Admins, Mentors, and Founders. However, many incubation, acceleration, or corporate programs work with research projects, small businesses, internal innovation teams, or localized cohorts rather than traditional startups.
Enabling this setting allows you to replace the default "Startup" term with a custom label of your choice. Once configured, AcceleratorApp automatically replaces the word globally in every context across the platform. For example, your main dashboard menu changes automatically from "Startup Portfolio" to your new custom name portfolio, ensuring your ecosystem's terminology aligns perfectly with your program's specific branding and audience.
Where to Find Startup Terminology Settings
This feature is located within the platform customization preferences and is accessible only to administrative accounts.
Step-by-Step
1. Open General Settings
Click on the Menu icon in your sidebar and click on General Settings.
2. Locate the Custom Name Preference Question
Scroll down the settings page until you find the question: Do you want to add an alternative name for your startup/project?
3. Activate the Terminology Fields
Click on Yes to expand the custom word configuration panel.
4. Input Your Alternative Term per Language
Type your preferred alternative name into the designated text fields for each active language supported on your AcceleratorApp portal.
5. Save Your Settings
Click the Save button at the bottom of the interface to deploy your custom term platform-wide.
Best Practices
Input Terms for Every Active Language: Always fill out the custom name translations for all languages used in your community portal so international founders and mentors do not see mixed default wording.
Choose a Versatile Label: Select a broad term (such as "Project", "Enterprise", or "Team") that accurately represents all types of companies, applications, or cohorts participating in your ecosystem.
Review System Navigation Items: After saving your configuration, refresh the page and browse through different user dashboards (like the Founder or Mentor view) to ensure global labels have transitioned smoothly to your new custom name.
