How to Create Custom Metrics
A guide on how to create metrics to measure programs and startups.
Introduction to Custom Metrics
Tracking the right metrics is essential for understanding startup progress, measuring success, and optimizing your accelerator program.
While AcceleratorApp provides predefined core metrics, you may also need to track unique aspects of your program that are specific to your goals. Custom metrics allow you to create tailored key performance indicators (KPIs) that align with the specific objectives of your accelerator. In this article, we will guide you through the process of creating and managing custom metrics in AcceleratorApp.
Where to Create Metrics
To create a new custom metric, click on Startups on the top menu and select Metrics and Data Collection. This is where you can define new metrics based on your accelerator's needs.
Step-by-Step Actions
STEP 1: From the Home Page or the top menu, click on Startups.
STEP 2: Click on Metrics & Collection.
STEP 3: Click on Add New Metric Category or Add a Related Metric to an existing category.
1. Metric Name: Choose a clear and descriptive name for your custom metric (e.g., “Customer Retention Rate” or “Lead Conversion Ratio”).
2. Frequency: Select how often this metric will be collected (daily, weekly, or monthly).
3. Category: Choose an existing category for your metric, or create a new one that best fits the data you’re tracking.
4. Unit of Measure: Select the unit type for your data (e.g., percentage, monetary, date, or custom).
5. First Collection Date: Decide whether the first collection date for this metric will be fixed or dynamic.
6. Data Collection Status: Choose whether the metric collection will be active or inactive.
7. Assign to Startups: Determine if this metric will be applied to all startups or only a specific group based on program or tags.
8. Additional Information: Provide any extra details or clarifications to help users understand the metric.
9. Save the Metric: Once you’ve configured the metric, click Save to store it in your system.
Tips and Best Practices
- Align Metrics with Program Goals: Ensure that your custom metrics are directly tied to the core objectives of your accelerator program. For example, if your program focuses on helping startups raise funding, create custom metrics to track funding milestones or investment rounds.
- Send feedback requests to remind Startups to submit their data
