How to use core metrics?

Introduction to the Core Metrics

Core Metrics in AcceleratorApp are foundational data points used to track, view, and analyze startup performance. These pre-configured data points target critical pillars of a startup's operational health, such as cash allocation, customer acquisition, employee growth, sales, and financing.

By standardizing these inputs for monthly collection, the platform provides incubators and accelerators with consistent, longitudinal insights into their portfolio companies. Instead of manually building tracking schemas from scratch, platform Admins can rely on structured data stored directly within the Startup Portfolio and individual Startup Files. This automates the benchmarking process and ensures startups report relevant information tailored precisely to their operational stage and business model.

Where to Find Core Metrics

Navigate to the Startups section on the top menu and select Metrics and Data Collection section.

Here, you will see metrics pre-configured by AcceleratorApp, as well as options to create custom metrics or categories. For guidance on creating custom metrics, click here.

Step-by-Step

1. Reviewing Core Metric Categories

Navigate to the main workspace to view your pre-configured parameters. Core Metrics are enabled by default and organized across five functional categories:

  • Cash Allocation
  • Customer/User
  • Employees
  • Sales
  • Financing

Default State: Core Metrics are enabled by default. However, you can request to disable them by contacting our Customer Service Team.
Monthly Collection: Metrics are updated in a monthly basis for consistent tracking.
Assignation: Core Metrics are assigned to all your startups.

2. Mapping the Startup Business Model

Navigate to the individual startup profile or initial onboarding flow. When you create or accept a startup into a program, answer the four fundamental Yes/No questions to define their operational framework:

  • Is your product or service live yet?

  • Are you generating sales yet?

  • Is your revenue model recurring?

  • Do you have free users?

3. Verifying Automatic Metric Assignment

Review the dynamic requirements grid on your metrics panel. Based on the responses provided in the previous step, AcceleratorApp uses predefined logic to automatically assign specific core metrics matching that startup’s unique business architecture.

4. Reviewing Calculated Smart Metrics

Click on the Calculated Metrics tab located at the top of the Metrics and Data Collection page. Review the formula definitions for these advanced key performance indicators (KPIs), which automatically synthesize raw startup inputs into actionable performance graphs.

  • Access descriptions of calculated metrics by clicking Calculated Metrics at the top of the Metrics and Data Collection page.
  • These KPIs leverage startup-provided Core Metric data to produce actionable performance insights.
